Fall Creek Float

If your looking for a fun and unique way to beat the heat in Central Oregon here’s a palatial little day trip 20 minutes from Bend, Fall Creek to Sparks Lake. This mellow two mile float takes about an hour squiring you through the meandering marshlands at the base of Broken Top, South, Middle Sister and Mt Bachelor. The views are amazing and the ride is a gentle cruise eventually dumping you into one of Central Oregon’s most scenic high mountain lakes. From there it’s a short paddle to the boat launch where your shuttle car will be waiting hopefully fully stocked with sandwiches and cold beers.

The creek is all snow melt so the window of opportunity is short May-July. The water temperature of Fall Creek is quite chilly but once you get to Sparks Lake it warms up dramatically. That being said this is not a inner tube float, Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs) are highly recommended for taking in the views and keeping your backside out of the ice bath. River Surf Co rents the perfect SUPs for this trip. We also rent Inflatable Sofas, Party Islands, Tubes or whatever you may need to outfit your floats on the Deschutes River or out on one of the Cascade Lakes. We have lots of insider tips for off the beaten path adventures like this one. We’re open this week Thurs-Sun 10-6. Here’s a float map for this trip:
